Baby's Full Moon Ayamas

Nothing much to blog today. Today my sis had helped me to distribute Keith's Full Moon Ayamas in Penang. And this is the picture she took for me (with her handphone, I think)

In this Box is supposed to be a pic. Refresh or click here for a bigger pic

Well, I would also like to take this opportunity to explain myself if you didn't get the package. Honestly I am doing this in order to thank those whom have been so kind to give Keith his birth angpows. And I am not distributing it further away from that circle because I felt that some of you could have felt cheated if I did, right? Especially when in tradition we were suppose to prepare it ourselves and send it out
not buying Ayamas. Why nobody buy KFC, leh? Although there was no Ayamas but there was KFC ma. Can buy a Dinner Set and add 'angku' kuih and eggs ourselves too ma :P

My math on this is like this, I send you a Ayamas Pack and you give me "Yuen Chen" is the same as you paying for the Ayamas with the "Yuen Chen" then you tell me who profit out of this? ......... Ayamas.....! And how many of you out there liked Ayamas? What flavour is also a problem too :P I don't think I'll like the Chicken in the picture because I prefer their Golden Roaster Chicken

I'm having severe headaches today. Please excuse me for my short blog

More Baby Pictures

Look at the rashes...... it is really clearing up fast. And also the cradle cap is not that bad now, though it is still 'work in progress'

Finally Elaine was able to snap some pictures of him while he was wide awake.

This is the picture of him being fed BM from a bottle

Grandma burping him. He seems to like this method of carrying. Sometime he sleeps on my shoulder while I was burping him this way. (Now we are sure to have a hard-neck (ngang keng) See how he tries to hold up his head.

Some close-ups on his face.

I guess he looked more alert now, probably because of the cleared rashes, and he is now less fussy too...... unless he is demanding for his milk

Baby's Rashes are clearing up

Now grandma will make sure that we will continue on seeing Dr Florence. Reason is because she felt that Dr Florence is very careful and would explain things in more details to us.

Yesterday morning Keith's milk rashes is clearing up rather fast too. Elaine took some pictures to show. Now grandma and Elaine will be working on the Cradle Cap. And we have changed Keith's supplement milk to Similac. Although doctor advised us to change the supplement milk later on if the problem persist, we rather change it now since Keith doesn't really mind the change. But Elaine is making sure that he will get more BM instead of depending on supplement milk.

Last night, when I took care of him, I realise that he was much less fussy compared to earlier. Probably with the milk rashes clearing, he is feeling much better now. In fact he is beginning to ezplore more and started to observe more visual and sounds too. (I have also just bought him a rattle, we saw how Dr Florence have used a rattle to distract him when he was crying.) **Duh! Why I didn't think using the rattle in the first place?**

Baby Full Moon small banquet

Well we have had a 'one table banquet' to celebrate baby's full month. Attended by his cousins too, Nicole and Yong Jin.

The food was rather "below average" (my mum kept complaining of the cooking and I drank a 1.5 litre of water upon reaching home) So I'm not gonna recommend that place to you.

Anyway yesterday was the first day baby followed us out for a full day outing. He slept rather well in the baby stroller and didn't fuss much while going out. In fact he is easier to care for during this outing than at home.

In the morning we went to see the Paed (and it was Dr Florence's shift) Babay had his 2nd Hepatitis B jab and consulted on his rashes and Nicole was given her jab (of I dunno what) She was being rather nosey by walking the whole consulting room while the doctor was taking a look at Keith. And when it is her turn for her jab, she was shouting "Takut, takut, scared, scared" when the nurse took off her pants :P Although three people held her down, she moved when the doctor jabbed her. Then she started to shout' "Pain, pain!"

In the evening we went to IKEA, this is where the nightmare started. Grandma took care of Nicole, at the place they had prepared for kids to play, as we were queuing up to buy food at the restaurant. We seated ourselves near the play place. As I was talking to mum what I bought for her, Nicole went missing at the turn of her head!!!! There were 8 adults and still Nicole can be lost.
What happened was she was playing near a girl and as the girl leaves with her mum, Nicole followed them :shakehead: We found her at the place where they sell kids stuffs. Grandma was so scared that she almost fainted! Even my MIL was shocked too. Luckily nothing bad happened. In fact Nicole was not traumatized by it at all, only the adults were (I am now thinking of using the baby-leash on Nicole)

This is my boy while we were gobbling down the food, as we were rather hungry. He have his milk right after this picture :P

A few more pictures

My sis just came over this Saturday morning and left on Sunday afternoon. But she forgot to leave me the Chinese Naming Book!!!!! Anyway she will be sending it via poslaju together with the "water powder" (for baby's face - you know those powder cones we used to apply on our faces after our baths when we were kids by disolving it with water first)

This is the Nicole's picture with a little of the powder applied, she was then 4 months old
In this Box is supposed to be a pic. Refresh or click here for a bigger pic

Keith's rashes is keeping Elaine and I rather worried as it is now beginning to form hard skin and his cheeks and ears are really red and skin starting to peel too. We really hope that tomorrow will come sooner so that we can check with the Paed when Keith is getting his 2nd Hepatitis B jab. (Could it be the 'heaty' problem or is he allergic to milk? - I hope this mystery would be solved tomorrow)

Those of you in Penang can expect my sis this coming weekend to drop by your place to distribute the "Full Month" packages for me...... Thanks for your "Yan Cheng" (Ang Pows and presents for baby)
Since there is not too many people to distribute in KL..... I really dunno what to order :P

Elaine and I liked this picture...... Doesn't he sleeps like an adult. Elaine and I have this habit of having something covering our exposed ear when we sleep too :P

This is Keith sleeping on the over-sized pillow that I have mentioned before. He tends to sleep better on this than in his cot :(

P/S - Wanna share with you all my candid shot of Nicole in the morning, look at the way she is sleeping. (She just turned 360 degree counter-clockwise before sleeping on the bolster) My sis used to be the same too when she was small
:P (Wonder if she still kicks and 'kungfu' when she sleeps)

One Month Old

Well, Boy you are one month old today but on the lunar calender it is tomorrow that is the Chinese full month (I dunno why they call it full-moon?????)

I have taken care of you till 5am this morning. I guessed your mummy was tire-out by your whining/struggling throughout the night. She waited so anxiously for midnight (she kept calling me to see if I can leave early), as soon as I returned home from work, she ordered me to clean up. After my meal she passed you to me for care and she jumped straight into bed. I really felt guilty that I have made the two of you suffered......

Things that I have observed about you
You like to take a lot more milk at midnight (it is possible, because in our line of work, your mum and I always took our dinner at midnight, even during pregnancy) And also you have a habit that you will want at least 1/2 oz Enfa (as a finishing bottle, is that a dessert for you?) before you retire to sleep :P

You would start by letting out more than regular 'small and short cries/moans' when you are about to want your milk...... By the time you really cry out and if the milk took too long, you would throw tantrum and would not wanna drink, sometimes you even use your hands to push the bottle away or swing your head away from it.

When you sleep you tend to make small noises as well as many facial expressions too (My mum told me that you are playing with the flower kids 'fa cai' 花子 where you would cry when you lose and smile when you win.

You like your "Guiness Stout" bath (you seem soothed by it) but you really dislike plain water bath and the "herbal bath for jaundice" given by your Aunt May

You disliked drinking plain water and taking Chinese Medicine (like Bo Ying Pills)

You are normally calm when we put you down as to preparing to change your diapers. But you would always throw a fuss when we start to change your shirt.

You are always able to break free of your bind, unless grandma uses the elastic band on you.

Your mum always freaks out when she hears you cry. She seemed to be pressured and lost whenever it happened. (Probably the reason why she was hospitalised)

You like to sleep in the living room more than in our room. You would prefer a big oversized pillow over your own cot. You would also not mind the noises we make when you are sleeping in the living room but are rather fussy of even soft whispers in the room, unless you are really deep asleep.

You hated heat and would sweat very easily.

Grandma have started the tummy oil rubbing and seems like it is wearing off some of the colic effect you are having.

Baby's Chinese Name

Well the names that the astrologer gave us is posted as below:

In this Box is supposed to be a pic. Refresh or click here for a bigger pic
I have got the pinyin(in a few dialects) from the internet to see how it sounds like and which combination to use. Guess naming a girl would be easier....... naming a boy is really a challenge......!

For now my first choice would be "Chi Hoi 志愷" but will see how should his name be written in alphabets. There is a possibility that I might re-spell it to see how it will fit his name, perhaps a 4 alphabet per word. I think the 3 alphabets looks funny with his name.

(It is somewhat official now) he can be addressed as Keith Chin, as Elaine have no objection to this name

But pronouncing it could be rather challenging as for Elaine's side, as they could easily be mispronounced as Kiss, Keep or even Give (they might just wanna stick with his Chinese name)

Elaine is really unsure of which name to choose, so we might just wanna wait for my sis to bring the Chinese naming book tomorrow (she is borrowing it from her friend)

With his full month 满月 coming up need to go out and do some preparations (like looking for the "Kuan Yin Temple" - since I do not have any ancestry/god in my house) And it also means that Elaine will be on her last day of confinement on that day too :P (And the dateline for baby's name is drawing near too)

The Chinese Astrologer

Went to the Astrologer in Pandan Jaya, Cheras to have baby's name calculated according to his elements (Recommended by May, Elaine's sis)
Well, we were given a choice of 6 names and true to my horror *we were given a different element* But we were told things that closely resemble what the BM Ah Koh mentioned to my sis.

Attendance by Grandma, Nicole (have badly misbehaved again), Elaine, Baby and I

Elaine and I have "sort of" finalise his name as Keith *yay! we have all won on the vote for this* As for his chinese name, we are still working on it but no matter what we will be registering baby's name next Tuesday (my day off) *we still have till 7th April for the 42 days after birth and pay the fine of RM5)

Earlier today Elaine went back to the hospital for her BP check as well and Dr Loo took a look at baby and said that his rashes are rather normal and would go away soon. But she advised Elaine to go easy on the ginger as it would make things worse :P *Best thing is my mum called my god-mother (also my mother's eldest sis, meaning my aunt too) and she reminded my mum that I have the same problem too when I was born...... now they are saying that it is genetic wor, Now I wonder which half of my genes caused that, huh? :P *

P/S- Really need to work something out with my sis on Nicole's manners, she tends to go overboard when we go outings or when there is a stranger present

Nicole was being sick yesterday and today

Sorry for the late update today...... it has been a very long day for me.

Yesterday we did not open the restaurant for business due to electrical works on the building. Elaine and I went to have her BP checked. Late in the afternoon my mother informed me that Nicole was complaining of stomach pain.
Well got to decide immediately which Paed to go to, (Dr Koe, Dr Eric Lee and Dr Wong, Dr Chang is closed in the evening)
In the end my mother decided to go to Baby's Paed, Dr Eric Lee and he will be at Sri Petaling in the evening. This decision was made while I was halfway thru my dinner because I took a check on her temperature and it read as 38.6-38.9. We immediately rushed to the clinic. (I didn't get to finish my dinner 'sob, sob!')
Waited for about an hour and were the third patient for the evening (one jumped ahead of us because the lil' girl was having very high fever - I think she vomitted later while waiting for her medicine) When we were in there, my mother had a shock of her life when doctor told her to be careful because a lot of children fall sick recently and was having the same problem as Nicole and also to be careful for the signs for Rotavirus and HFM. [Ouch! I have a baby at home, now I'm in trouble] And doctor have to put those fever medicine via her rectum. The bill came up to RM110 and Dr Eric was being very kind in explaining all the medicine and his nurse also informed us that the medicines are storeable if unused/unmixed.

At midnight, Nicole did have diarrhea, just as the doctor predicted, so Nicole have to change from Enfapro to Similac (non-lactose)

This morning when I checked on Nicole, she was doing much better (still as loud and misbehaving as usual :P) Then at 1pm I received a call from Elaine that Nicole's eye got swollen. Luckily Foong Leng came over to visit my mother so got her help to send them to TDMC to see Dr Eric Lee (he is taking patients there today)
Well according to them, when they drop by my shop after visiting the doctor, the doctor is not able to tell the cause of the swollen eye (it is caused by allergy, I think)

Look how funny she looks after my mother cropped her front fringes (Grandma thought the fringes could also be part of the reason for her swollen eye)
And if you did observe carefully, this time it is the other eye that is swollen.
In this Box is supposed to be a pic. Refresh or click here for a bigger pic

Please forgive me for any spelling/grammatical error. I tried to rush this to be posted before midnight tonight. :P

Baby's Feeding

This is baby's feeding pattern yesterday

In this Box is supposed to be a pic. Refresh or click here for a bigger pic

What is getting me worried is his feeding at midnight (circled in red). Is that too much? He kept opening his mouth and shake his head (what he does when he tried to latch) then he would kept whining. A pacifier would stop him for a few minutes but then he would start crying until he is given what he wanted........ more milk. Is that too much for him? I think he now weighs about 3.5kg (born 2.85kg)
Normally, his feeding pattern at midnight is a little alarming, he kept on wanting more.

He is on BM and would be taking Enfa whenever he needed more milk.(when re-heating BM would take a little more time and he wanted it ASAP)

As you all know that Elaine got admitted for high blood pressure. She did some EBM in the hospital but she was quite reluctant to give it to baby because she felt that their equipment is not hygienic enough.

BTW, her BM storage was depleted and baby's feeding went back to Enfa on the night she was admitted. So that is the reason of the mix of the two in the above schedule

Might need to go to the astrology sifus again tomorrow to re-calculate baby's elements :P

Elaine discharged

Elaine was being discharged from TDMC yesterday after Dr Loo have a check on her. She is given a clean bill of health but she will have to take some pills which will ensure that she have enough of sleep (She sleeps like a log minutes after taking that pill) The check-out bill came up to RM255.

As soon as she reaches home, she took cleaned up and the pump to start expressing her BM. The reason why Elaine was reluctant to give baby her EBM from the hospital because the sanitary problem. Mainly because of the nurses didn't clean up the container or the tube of the pump machine after Elaine used it. *We all know that BM have antibodies and can be stored in a room temp upto 4 hours but all EBM tools have to be washed and sterilised after each use* (In fact when they initially let her use the machine with a cracked container)

Other than this, everything was rather fine. I did meet up with Jazzmint and her cute lil' Faythe later at night. I will blog on that another time. Mum and I was rather "paiseh" because Nicole really misbehaved.

Elaine got admitted

This morning Elaine complained of severe headache and she's suspecting that she "choong foong" (kena angin) Told my mum to take care of baby to let her rest. (Deep inside I was already suspecting that she have high blood pressure but she insisted on the Chinese practise, so me no choice and let her go with her flow)

At 3pm she kept complaining of her headache..... I told her that she will need to call Dr Loo for advise rather than just complaining to me (I dunno since when I became her doctor :P) Dr Loo told her that she needs to go to the hospital to take her BP and see what turns out (Doctors means professional people, my wife sure listen one..... my advice, she sure won't take one)

Reached the clinic and the nurse took her BP and both readings was 150/100. Rather serious so the nurse (her name is Para) let her in to see Dr Tang (it is Dr Tang's Shift then) When Dr Tang took her BP it was 170/110 (Awfully high, even for those with High BP) so doctor recommended admission. Now Elaine was pondering about the insurance claim issue so she was reluctant in getting admitted and she signed the papers in not wanting to admit.(According to the doctor, Insurance do not cover admission of High BP due to delivery)

I talked to her and told her the consequences of not wanting to admit, like Epilepsy and Brain Haemorrhaging. Money is more important than anything else in this world, especially when it is a life-threathening situation. Finally she got admitted and managed to get her to see the seriousness of her situation. When the nurse came to check on her, her BP was at 130/80

A call to Dr Loo told her that her admission is required because of her BP fluctuation. I just hope that everything is alright with her. Thought of blogging this so that you may know the actual story and not part or bits of it :)

Nothing much to update

Well baby is doing much better since mum switched from herbal bath (given by my SIL's MIL) to "Guinness Stout" bath. Yup, "Guiness Stout" is being used here to bathe baby (diluted la, of course) The thing about this is I have been rather skeptical about things like this, but it really works. His rashes seems to be going away and his skin is clearing up much better too. (According to my mum and wife, he is less heaty now. But is it the bath or the "Bo Ying Sam Bou") Baby seems to dislike taking his daily doses of the "Bo Ying Sam Bou", he would really make a big fuss when my mum is feeding this to him. But we did this before we feed him and he is easier to comfort as long as he is given his milk after that.

I realise that he has one of Elaine's trait, that is not wanting to drink plain water (while I am a water-guzzler myself). He would make a very big fuss if he is given plain water, especially after his milk. (Normally we have to give him some water before his milk) The problem is that we were trying to give him some water after his milk to clear up the milk still in his mouth.

Yesterday I also realise he is beginning to want us to carry him more often. Also another problem have occurred is that it is harder for us to burp him lately. We have also bought some "Keng Foong San" to ease him in his sleep because Elaine and I felt him suddenly jolting in his sleep. And lately Elaine have not taken any pictures of baby.

We would be going back to Loh Tat Pit to confirm the "full month" dates, because the date he gave is earlier than the actual date by more than 10 days.

The 臭豆腐 "Chou To Fu" Again

Yesterday, After Elaine and I went to have her stitches taken off, mum and I went to Loh Tat Pit (pornounced as "Loh Tit Pat") for the Chinese Astrology calculation for baby's name (for RM70). Will update on the names he have given later. Funny because Elaine and I are in a dilemma because the BM Ah Ko told us that baby is to avoid water (needed fire) but the Loh Tat Pit is telling us that baby have too much fire and his name needed water :( Really confused..... now need to go to at least another one to confirm which one is right...... Sad thing if that person mention another element then we sure KO one :P

Well, this is the first Tuesday that the "Chou To Fu" start business after Chinese New Year. I did snap some pictures of the queue but forgot to snap the picture of the tofu we bought (Fear not, my mum is really missing the tofu so much, I predict that she will be going back to buy some next week too. Too bad, my sis, you came at the wrong time)....... So sorry I was rather tired yesterday. Needed to take care of baby for 2 nights already (Baby seems to bully Elaine, he would be very fussy when Elaine is feeding him but with me or grandma feeding he is much more ok)

The spyshot I took when everyone is not looking. Sorry for the bad exposure.(I have to take care of Nicole whom is running to and fro the pavement, perhaps she is looking for a way to go to her grandma) The queue is already a shorter queue compared to my earlier described one. That is why my mum gets to queue up to buy it :P

myBabyBay.com Forum

I am so overwhelmed by a local baby-related forum that I am gonna recommend it to you all to visit. it is called myBabyBay.com, in there are many active and experienced mothers and fathers (They are mainly Malaysians so the advices they provide there are more localized, brands are much easier to find and much better suiting - Malaysians ma) This is the best forum that I have been to. (I hope the owner won't mind me using the picture from the site, well, people tend to like to look at pictures that you are describing to them about)

Yesterday I had posted up my questions and I got many, many help already. Best part of all, today the help is almost like instant (I think there are many 24/7 online mum/dad nowadays) I would strongly suggest you all to give it a try if you or your relative are in need of advice/recommendation/suggestion

Here I would like to thank jazzmint for recommending to me such a wonderful site and helping me to activate my account

Chinese Medicines and Baby's Rashes

Bought quite a number of stuffs from Eu Yan Sang yesterday (they are the closest to my working place) but they don't have the "Bo Ying Pills" because it was sold out (they are currently having the 4+1 promotion)
Items bought are like: Red Dates, "Pak Kei", "Dung Sam", "So Hup" Pills and "Bak Fung" Pills

Next on the problem list is baby's cheek having some rashes (according to my mother & MIL it is the "milk rashes") so will have to make sure that Elaine and my mum would be cleaning up his face more frequently. It is also suggested that we can use the nappy rashes on it too (This would be a little ridiculous to some of you, one even suggested applying of his urine then clean up with a wet towel/cotton) But if you really open up your mind, it does make some sense if you see the urine as a mild sterilizer instead. I think Dettol or Savlon, even diluted, is too strong for newborn babies anyway.

We're still working on his name
His English name is almost confirmed to be Kenneth but we will see how it blends with his Chinese name :P We will prefer to look for an almost "sound alike" English and Chinese name, to avoid the trouble of have a very long name.
Personally I like the name Keith too but I guess Mommy have the biggest say as she's the one whom sacrifices the most for baby (For her, Keith can easily be mispronounced as Gift)
Afterall, she had carried him in the womb for 9 months, giving birth to him, now have to be confined and breast feeding him (I think Elaine is doing a very great job on the bf, without much guidance)

Last but not least, Nicole has recovered about 90% from her swollen eye. Doctor said that probably she contracted it when she was outdoor and it is just an allergy. :)

I have included the Video Clip below this, if it is not showing please click

Our Baby is One Week Old

Well this is the day last week when he is brought into this world. I have left the digital cam in the house and told Elaine to snap some whenever she can. Well better than her using her handphone to snap those over-saturated pictures.

Nicole is definitely getting a little out of control nowadays, I bet she's doing it because she sense the lesser attention towards her. Well, will need to work out a way to tell her that attention will still be given to her but misbehaving would not bring her any attention. It is not her fault as she is still too young to know what is right and wrong without being taught.
It is always easier to be said than done, that's what most of you would say but she is afterall still my niece and we all in the family are truly concerned of her misbehaving. my sis, I think she got this strain of personality from you :)
Guess I need to start reading the "Four Weeks to a Better Behaved Child: Breakthrough Discipline" book (it seems to be for children from 2 to 10) Let me know if you needed to borrow my copy :P

Nicole's Eye Swollen

Nicole still having a swollen eye (since Wednesday night) so we went to see Dr Chang. Need to actually teach her to accept her new cousin and she have to share the attention with him. She is becoming more rowdy and louder since the arrival of our newborn. All of us seem to be losing the control grip of her with her nasty turning behavior. All are depending on me to control her but I needed to work 12-14 hours a day :( and what this young one truly needed is more quality time with her family.

My sis, I am sorry if you find this picture posting as offending, please let me know. I thought at least we can show this to Nicole in future.

This is the picture I took of her as we were leaving for the clinic. FYI, She was still as active as ever, running around, yelling and like a monkey (like she is) just could not sit still (just what the nurse said!)

As for baby, he doing quite ok. And his cord came off yesterday and he will be officially a week old tomorrow.

Now for baby's name part

The "BM Ah Ko" highly recommended the following names in the order
1. 啟賢(启贤 in Simplified Chinese)
But Elaine do not like the name because it is the same name as the singer Eric Moo Kai Yin (Cantonese) Wū Qǐxián (Mandarin) (aka. Sky Moo)巫啟賢
In this Box is supposed to be a pic. Refresh or click here for a bigger pic

2. 啟勇-Kai Yong (Cantonese)
3. 啟發-Kai Fatt (Cantonese)
This two is totally very old-fashioned la..... So Ah Beng leh
She also recommend us to change the 啟(kai) to 加(ka), if found unsuitable.

Anyway as for the English part, we have finalized 2 and votes are split evenly between the two
1. Kenneth
2. Keith
